Discover the World of Botanical Candles!

Mar 4, 2024

Botanical candles are unique because they incorporate natural elements like dried flowers, herbs, or other plant-based materials into their design and composition. These botanical elements distinguish them from regular containerised candles in several ways:

  • Botanical candles are visually appealing due to the addition of natural elements. Dried flowers, petals, herbs, and other botanicals are often arranged or embedded in the candle's wax, creating a decorative and aesthetically pleasing appearance. This makes them an attractive choice for home décor and gift-giving.
  • Burning a botanical candle offers a multisensory experience. You enjoy the scent and visual beauty of the botanicals as they become illuminated by the candle's flame. This combination of sight and smell can create a more immersive atmosphere.

How to make botanical candles?

Botanical candles are meticulously crafted with a harder outer wax and a softer inner core, strategically designed for the inner wax to melt first. This intentional combination prolongs the burning time and ensures that the fragrance is gradually released into the air. The outer wax is often infused with aesthetic ingredients, enhancing the visual delight as the candle burns. To ensure safety and optimal burning, botanical candles should be placed on a candle plate or suitable candle holder. This protects surfaces from heat damage and ensures a stable base for the candle's steady glow.

  • Botanical candles can serve as decorative pieces even when not lit. Their unique appearance adds a touch of nature and elegance to your living space. They are often used as centrepieces for special occasions or as decorative accents in various settings

  • Some botanicals, such as lavender, eucalyptus, and chamomile, are believed to have aromatherapeutic properties that promote relaxation and well-being. Burning a botanical candle with these natural ingredients may enhance your mood and create a more soothing environment.

  • Botanical candles come in a wide range of options, each featuring different botanical elements. This diversity allows you to choose candles that align with your preferences and the ambience you want to create.

  • Botanical candles make thoughtful and unique gifts. They are often appreciated for their beauty and the effort put into their design. Whether given as a birthday present, housewarming gift, or a token of appreciation, they can convey a sense of care and thoughtfulness.

Botanical care guide

Due to the individuality of these unique handmade candles, extra care should be taken when burning and maintaining them. Please follow the guidance below to ensure you get the best out of your botanical candle.

Trim each wick to 5mm before lighting and again each time

Each time the candle is used, it should be lit and allowed to burn for a minimum of two hours. If burning a multi-wick, ensure each wax pool has joined before extinguishing.

Burn for a maximum of four hours on each occasion. The diameter of the burn pool will expand as the candle burns down.

The outer wall of the candle is made from harder wax due to the botanical elements. Only the inner core will melt, so a tunnelling effect is completely normal.

It is extremely important that no part of the candle is close to another heat source i.e. a radiator, open fire, direct sunlight or another candle; as this may cause uneven burning and weakening of that section of the candle wall.

This candle has been designed and manufactured with a harder wax base and should be extinguished approximately 15mm from the bottom. This is to prevent leakage and ensure fire safety.
